Fire Safety Information
Vinyl siding, and other exterior vinyl building materials require very little maintenance and will last and remain beautiful for many years. Owners and installers of vinyl siding need to be aware of a few simple things to protect vinyl building materials from fire.
Installing Vinyl Siding
When vinyl siding is exposed to significant heat or flame, the
vinyl will soften, sag, melt, or burn, and may expose the material underneath.
Be careful when selecting underlayment materials for your project, because
many of these materials are also made from organic materials that will burn.
You should always know the fire properties of your underlayment materials
before you begin your siding project. And always install all building materials
in accordance with local, state, and federal building codes and fire regulations.
You can contact your local building authority for more specific information.
Owning Vinyl Siding
Vinyl siding is made from organic materials and will melt or
burn when exposed to a significant source of flame or heat. Building owners
and occupants should always take normal precautions to keep sources of heat
and fire, such as barbecues, away from vinyl siding.
For general information about vinyl siding products, contact the Vinyl Siding
