Power saw A bench or radial arm power saw can speed the cutting and installation of the siding. A Fine tooth blade (12 to 16 teeth per inch) should be used with the blade in the reverse direction . In extremely cold weather, move the saw through the material slowly. Some applicators prefer a hand held power saw.
CAUTION
A saw blade set up in the manner described should be used exclusively for cutting vinyl. Do Not attempt to use on other materials (wood, plywood, etc.).
Standard Tools The common hand tools such as hammer, fine tooth saw, square, chalkline, level, rules, etc. are needed for proper installation. Safety glasses must be used to protect the eyes.
Utility Knife Due to the inherent characteristics of vinyl, it is easy to cut, trim and score with a utility knife or scoring tool.
Tin Snips A good quality of tin snips or compound leverage aviation-type snips will speed the cutting and shaping of the vinyl.
Snaplock Punch It is used to punch ears or lugs in the cut edges of the siding to be used for the top or finishing course. The punched edge will engage and lock in the installed undersill trim or finish trim.
Nail Hole Punch If it is necessary to nail the cut edge of a panel, use this tool to punch the required hole. The hole is elongated to allow for expansion and contraction.
Unlocking Tool Remove or replace a siding panel with this tool (also known as a zip tool). Insert the curved end of the tool under the end of the panel and hook onto the back lip of the butt lock. To disengage the lock, pull downward and slide the tool along the length of the panel. Use the same manner to install a new panel.
