Installing Horizontal Siding

The first panel is placed in the starter strip and locked. Panels are then installed and fastened by nailing in the center of the nailing slots. Make sure to check the course to ensure proper alignment with windows, eaves and adjacent walls. Always allow 1/4" at all corner posts and channels to allow for expansion and contraction. Vinyl panels ends should be lapped in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Succeeding courses are installed the same way. Stagger the end laps so that one is not directly above another, unless separated by 3 courses. Check every 5th or 6th course for alignment. Do Not force panels up and down when you are nailing them into position. Panels should not be under tension or be compressed when nailing.

ALWAYS overlap joints away from entrances and away from the point of greatest traffic. This will improve the overall appearance of the siding installation.

Lapping End Joints
Since vinyl siding moves as the temperature changes, make certain that the siding panels can move freely in a lateral direction and a re overlapped according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Fitting under windows
First, mark the section to be cut. Cut the sides with snips and score lengthwise with a utility knife or scoring tool. Now, bend the sections back and forth along the scored line to separate it. The cut panel is now ready for installation under the window. Undersill trim should be used along the horizontal edge. Fur if needed.

Finishing at the Top
Furring may be needed to allow the last panel to set at the proper angle when you are installing over old, existing siding.

Eaves Treatment
Consult the manufacturer's instructions for the exact cutting tolerances to ensure a proper fit for the top or finishing course of the siding. Cut the siding panel so that it will cover the remaining open section.

Using a snaplock punch, punch the siding along the cut edge every 6" to 12" so that the raised ear of lug in on the outside face of the siding.

Push the siding into the finish or undersill trim that has been nailed in place along the top of the wall. Furring may be needed to ensure the angle of the siding is correct. The raised ears will catch and hold the siding firmly in place.
